Our Morocco 5 Day Itinerary begins with a departure from Marrakech, traveling over the stunning High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass at an altitude of 2260 meters. We'll pause to soak in the breathtaking landscapes and view the charming local Berber villages. In the afternoon, we visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou and have lunch nearby. We then continue to Ouarzazate, passing through the famous Valley of the Roses, which blooms spectacularly in April and May. Our day ends with lodging and dinner at a traditional hotel in Dades Valley.
After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely walk in the Dades Valley before we head towards Todra Gorges, renowned for its dramatic cliffs and as a top destination for climbers in Morocco. We drive through palm groves and oases on our way to Merzouga, passing through Erfoud, known as the Moroccan fossil capital. Upon reaching Erg Chebbi, the sand sea, we embark on a two-hour camel ride to watch the sunset atop the dunes. We'll spend the night camping in traditional Berber tents under the starry desert sky.
Spend the day exploring the fascinating area of Erg Chebbi. We'll visit nomad families to learn about their unique lifestyle, and explore lakes, wells, and wildlife. A stop in Khamlia, known as the village of black people, offers the chance to enjoy tea and listen to their spiritual Gnawa music. Lunch will be a picnic under the shade of Tamarix trees or at a hotel. In the afternoon, relax at the camp, enjoy traditional music, and watch the sunset and the stars rise.
After watching the sunrise, enjoy breakfast and a shower at camp. Choose to ride the camels or transfer back by 4WD to the starting point, where you'll meet your driver. We then travel to Ouarzazate, passing through Rissani to visit its traditional market if we're there on a market day (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday). We'll drive through the arid pre-desert area, seeing typical acacia trees, and make stops to admire the views of the Draa Valley, Morocco's longest river. Crossing the Anti-Atlas, we'll reach Ouarzazate in the late afternoon or evening for dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel.
