Along the road students can admire breathtaking views of mountain landscapes, valleys, and traditional Berber villages built along the slopes. The first major stop of the day is the historic village of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its traditional mud-brick architecture and its role as a filming location for many international movies and television series. Students will have time to walk through the narrow streets of this ancient ksar and learn about the history of the old caravan routes that once connected the Sahara to the imperial cities of Morocco. After lunch the journey continues to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Morocco,” before traveling through the beautiful Valley of Roses where local villages are surrounded by fields of fragrant roses and traditional kasbahs.
